Herbert James Buddy Boy Smith Sr.; 87; of Newport News; Va.; formerly of Monessen; was called to his heavenly home on Monday evening; Dec. 30; 2013. He entered into eternal rest while surrounded by his loving family and an excellent team of medical staff members at Mary Immaculate Hospital. His journey of life began Dec. 15; 1926; in Monessen; the second child of two siblings born to the late Dan and Cora Smith. Herbert was united in holy matrimony to Alice Patterson. To this union; his pride and joy Charlotte; Valerie and Herbert Jr. were born. He was affectionately known throughout the Mon Valley as Uncle Buddy and Buddy Boy ; a little man with a big heart who dearly loved his family and extended family. He attended Monessen public schools. He was formerly employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Mill in Monessen at a young age and retired with over 30 years of service. Most of his life was spent in Monessen until he decided to move with his daughters in Newport News; Va.; in 2008. His passion was his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; all of his nieces; and nephews. It gave him great joy to be able to spend time with all of them every chance he got. He enjoyed his life with his family; listening to music; eating and watching Western movies. During his lifetime; Buddy Boy was an avid follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his parents and grandparents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Alice J. Smith after 29 years of marriage; a sister; Thelma Smith-Majors and longtime companion; Alice Joyner. George Rube Williams; 68; of Fairhope; Belle Vernon; passed away; Tuesday; Dec. 31; 2013; in Monongahela Valley Hospital; Carroll Township. He was born Aug. 7; 1945; in Washington Township; son of the late George Williams Sr. and the late Annette Tiernan Williams. He was retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co.; Allenport Plant. He is survived by his wife; Pamela K. Robert F. Semancik; 63; of Carnegie; died Sunday; Dec. 8; 2013; at the University of North Carolina Hospitals; Chapel Hill; from a fatal injury incurred from a fall. He was happy with life and family and friends; a loving husband; father and grandfather. He died peacefully with his loving family surrounding him. As a continuation of his loving and giving spirit; Robert’s final act of kindness in his life was to become an organ donor. Born Aug. 14; 1950; in Charleroi; he lived in Belle Vernon many of his years. Devout in his faith; he was a long-standing member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and recently St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church; Bridgeville. He attended St. Sebastian School and Belle Vernon Area High School. He served in the Army and later in the Army Reserves. Robert started his career in mine safety with Republic Steel; then oversaw safety for highway construction and finally retired from the Port Authority of Allegheny County. He was happiest spending many relaxing days with his family and young grandchildren; Gabriel and Nathaniel. His gentle; friendly ways endeared many to his circle of friends throughout his life. A great lover of the outdoors; he enjoyed hiking; biking and kayaking in Western Pennsylvania and was happy to tee off for a round or two; and often share his wit and storytelling over the grill at his home. Always dedicated to hearth and home; he lived for many years in Rostraver Township where he organized family reunions at Cedar Creek Park. He was the son of the late Michael P. and Julia Semancik; and is survived by his wife; Cindy Sebrosky Semancik; three daughters and sons- in-law; Amy and Carlos Diaz; of Suwanee; Ga.; Allison Semancik and Ian Tacher; of Miami; Fla.; and Rachel Semancik; of Duluth; Ga.; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Patricia and Siegfried Troeger; of Guatemala City; and Maryann and Wayne Davis; of Los Angeles; Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother; Michael P. Semancik. Roderick T. Booty Jones Jr.; 39; of Monessen; passed away Wednesday; Dec. 4; 2013. Born April 14; 1974; in Charleroi; he was the son of Carla (Gregory) Davis and Roderick Jones Sr.; all of Monessen; who survive. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Dennis and Lynn Jones and Katherine and Samuel Mason; and maternal grandparent; Rosemae Crawford. Affectionately called Booty ; he was a fun-loving person; he knew everybody and always made you laugh. RAYMOND L. DUNLAP
Raymond L. Dunlap; 92; formerly of Fayette City; passed away; Monday; Dec. 2; 2013 in Mon Valley Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Vandergrift on Aug. 30; 1921; he was the son of Anna Kenner Dunlap Wilson; Ray Dunlap and the stepson of Clarence Wilson. Ray had been a member of the Fayette City Christian and Missionary Alliance Church; the Fayette City American Legion and an honorary member of the Naomi Club. He and his wife; June; enjoyed playing cards at the Center on the Hill and spent many wonderful years with their children and grandchildren at their camp at Confluence. He had been employed by the former B and O and the Donora Southern Railroad; and later retired from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before entering the Army; where he served his country during World War II in the 101st Airborne Division; jumping on D-Day and later into Holland. He walked in Betzstone; Belgium and received a Bronze Star for the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his wife; the love of his life for 68 years; June McCrory Dunlap; whom he married at Fort Dix; N.J.; on June 13; 1945; one daughter; Jill Layhue of Belle Vernon; with whom he made his home; one son and daughter-in-law; Jeffrey L. and Gloria Dunlap of Canfield; Ohio; a son-in-law; James Layhue; two grandchildren; Mark (Krista) Dunlap of Austintown; Ohio; and Brian Layhue of Pittsburgh; and one great-grandchild; Mason A.
