Arthur A. Granlund; 64; of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; April 8; 2014; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born in North Charleroi on April 16; 1949; he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Emily (Daniels) Granlund. Arthur was a specialty millwright at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He is survived by his wife; Sally A. (Farmer) Granlund; two sons; Eric M. Granlund of Yukon and William J. Granlund of Washington Township; and two grandchildren; Abigail and Erik Granlund. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a sister; Marlene Meechem. There will be no public visitation. David H. Bergstedt Jr.; 70; of Monessen; passed away on Wednesday; April 2; 2014; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born June 20; 1943; in New Eagle; eldest son of the late David H. and Lena DeRocco Bergstedt Sr. Dave graduated from Monessen High School and had received a scholarship to Youngstown State University in football. He later transferred to California State College. Dave was a U.S. veteran; having served in the Army National Guard. Dave was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen as well as the Monessen Elks BPOE No. 773; Ravens AA; French Club; and Croatian Club. Dave also loved spending time with his son; Dave; at his place of business; Kopko’s Grille. He worked as a Steelworker for Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel; and most recently for Arcelor Mittal and had served as a grievance manager for the Steelworkers Union. Dave worked many years as a sporting official. He had been a WPIAL official in football; baseball; and basketball; as well as a member of the Eastern Collegiate Football Association. Dave worked many games; from minor league upwards to college level sporting events; but his favorite was college football. He was respected by the players on the field or court; and admired by his fellow officials; with whom he developed great friendships. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Steelers; Penguins; and Pirates; however; his heart was always with his beloved Monessen Greyhounds. Most of all; Dave loved spending time with his family; especially their large holiday gatherings. Surviving are his wife; Sandra Jupin Bergstedt; four daughters; Meri and husband; John Labick; of Latrobe; Dana Bergstedt and companion; George Toineeta of Ashville; N.C.; Heidi and husband; Doug Niesen of Peters Township; Tippi and husband; Derrick Dolfi; of Belle Vernon; his son; David H. III and wife; Dana Bergstedt; of Monessen; nine grandchildren; Tommy Labick; Wil; Ben; and Rachel Niesen; Natalie; Ashley; and Rylie Dolfi; Victoria and David IV Bergstedt; two brothers; Daniel and wife; Roberta Bergstedt and William and wife; Aurelia Bergstedt; both of Monessen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother; Barry J. Bergstedt; in addition to his parents. Dave was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. After a long; difficult; courageous battle with cancer; Deborah Ann Travis went to be with her heavenly Father on March 27; 2014; at her home in Smithton; formerly of Perryopolis. She was born in Cleveland; Ohio; on Aug. 22; 1957; the daughter of Norma (Krukowsky) Lasko and the late; Raymond R. Lasko Sr. Debbie was a very loving daughter; sister; mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her precious family trips to the beach; gardening; crafts and making sweet treats for everyone. One of her fondest memories was being the Frazier Homecoming Queen in the Class of 1975. She is survived by her mother; two daughters; Alexis Petrosky and husband; Mike; and Jessica McGowan and husband; Mac; all of Belle Vernon and their father; James Travis of Perryopolis; grandchildren; Travis Smith and Ruby McGowan; Nolace and Neville Petrosky; sister; Vicki Narron and husband; Jimmy; of Wake Forest; N.C.; sister-in-law; Denise Lasko of Clear Water; Fla.; and many aunts; uncles; cousins and dear friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her father; brother; Raymond Lasko Jr.; and granddaughter; Lena Petrosky. Maxine A. Hawkins; 97; of Monessen; passed away on Thursday; Jan. 9; 2014; in Manor Care of McMurray. She was born March 3; 1916; in Monessen; a daughter of the late Alonzo Barton and Rose Potts Clingerman. She was a member of The First Christian Church of Monessen and had served her church as secretary and choir director. Surviving are her son; Thomas Hawkins II; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; Thomas Hawkins; and several brothers and sisters; and her Beagle; Duncan . A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday; Jan. 18; 2014; in the First Christian Church of Monessen with the Rev. Conrad Auel officiating. There will be no public visitation per Mrs. Hawkins’ request. Private interment will take place at the family’s convenience. Elmer Leo Steele; 97; of Roscoe; died Sunday; March 23; 2014; at Mon Valley Hospital. Born Aug. 21; 1916 in Jacobsburg; Ohio; a son of Walter Scott and Olive Edith Wells Steele. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Steele was retired from the former Page’s steel mill in Monessen. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law; Terry and Joyce Steele of Roscoe; two daughters and a son-in-law; Sherryl Wall of Roscoe and Sheila and Jim Sneith of Eighty-Four; nine grandchildren; Joyce; Shelly; Paul; Aimee; Michael; Joy; Misty; Jayme and Dylon; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; Helen L. Winters Steele in 2002; and son-in-law; Roger Steele. There will be no public visitation.
