Mr.Basits was born Oct.15;1906;in Braznell;a son of the late Joseph and Mary Steinhauer Basits. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon;he was Protestant. Mr.Basits had served as a Belle Vernon Borough councilman;and had also served the borough in the capacity of treasurer until retiring that post in 1985. In addition;he had served as a Justice of the Peace. Mr.Basits was a member of the Belle Vernon Fire Company No.1 and was a charter member and the oldest living member of Belle Vernon Fire Company No.2. In 1972 he retired from the tube mill of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation’s Allenport Plant. He was a member of Belle Vernon Moose Lodge 209;American Legion Post 659 and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club.
