Joseph W.Ciavarra of Main St.; Fayette City;died suddenly Sunday; Dec.5;1982 at his home. He was 91. Mr.Ciavarra was born Jan.2;1888; In Palcna; Italy; a son
of the late Eliseo and Adelina
Ciavarra.
He was one of 12 children;
nine of whom died early In
life during a diptheria
epidemic. While a young boy;
he studied for the priesthood;
but gave it up because he felt
he might not be able to fulfill
some of the commitments Involved.
Instead Mr. Ciavarra
entered Into an apprenticeship as a tailor. He came
to the United States In 1911
and resided with relatives in
Canonsburg where he worked
for a short period of time in a
steel mill.
He then came to Monessen
where he operated a one
room tailor shop. Mr.
Ciavarra was then approached by Andrew Stoffel; a merchant tailor in Fayette City;who asked him to go into business with him;which Mr. Ciavarra did. In 1917;he opened his own shop in Fayette City;employing five men. Upon being drafted into the Army Air Squadron during World War I;he sold his shop to another tailor. When Mr.Ciavarra returned from the war;he worked in Charleroi for Dave Tosenburg as a tailor;designer and furrier. He then returned to Fayette City and opened his own shop again and remained in business there until he retired in 1980 at the age of 92. Mr.Ciavarra was a businessman for some 68 years;at least 60 of them in Fayette City. the family business in Fayette City is still being operated by his son;William L.Ciavarra. He was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 468;Charleroi;and the Brightwell-Daugherty American Legion Post 484 of Fayette City. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife;Edna Natola Ciavarra;on Dec.30;1973;and a son in 1922. Suriviors include one son;William L.Ciavarra of Fayette City;one daughter;Mrs.Wilmina Michaloski of Fayette City;and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Howard W. McCrory Funeral Home;Fayette City;Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday;Dec.8;at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Gnatuk of Acme;Pa.;officiating. Rosario Coccari of 403 Pearl St.;Monessen;died Tuesday at 10:15 p.m. in the Jefferson Hills Manor Nursing Home. He was 88. Born in Italy;Nov.26;1893;he was the son of the late Joseph and Angelina Coccari. Mr.Coccari had been a resident of Monessen for the past 72 years. He was a member of St.Cajetan Church;Monessen;and the Monessen Sons of Italy. He retired from Page Steel and Wire;Monessen;in 1963. Mr.Coccari was preceded in death by two brothers;Carmine and Dominic Coccari. Surviving are his wife;Philomena Malgeri Coccari;three sons;Joseph;John and Rudolph Coccari;one daughter;Marie Heckel;seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren;and one brother;Frank;in Italy. John Cavanaugh of 412 Wood St.;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;Sept.28;1982;at 6 a.m. in Monongahela Valley Hospital;Carroll Twp.  Mr.Cavanaugh was 75.  He was born Aug.3;1907;in Fayette City;a son of the late Thomas and Margaret Long Cavanaugh.  A resident of Belle Vernon for the past 73 years;he was a former member of Belle Vernon Borough Council.  Mr.Cavanaugh was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon.  He retired as a chemist in  1970 from the Page Plant of the American Chain and Cable Company in Monessen.  Mr.Cavanaugh was also a member of the Belle Vernon Legion Club and the Belle Vernon Musical Society.  He is survived by his widow;Thelma Riskey Cavanaugh;one daughter;Mrs.Ronald (Yvonne) Koeper of Moon Twp.;one son;William Hixenbaugh of Grindstone;one sister;Mrs.Margaret Martin of Houston;Texas;and eight grandchildren.   Friends will be received in the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Service will be held in the funeral home Thursday;Sept.30;at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Shelby D.Ferguson;funeral director;is in charge of arrangements. 

Pearl Chabalka of 740 Highland Ave.;North Charleroi;died Saturday Aug.7;1982;at 11 a.m.in the Washington Extended Care Facility;Washington;Pa. She was 83. Mrs.Chabalka was born Oct.8;1898;in Austria-Hungary;a daughter of the late Nicholas and Ann Sudia Chabalka. She had been a resident of North Charleroi for the past 50 years. Mrs.Chabalka was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church;Charleroi. She was preceded in death by her husband;Alex Chabalka. Survivors include one son;Nicholas Chabalka of Belle Vernon R.D.4;two daughters;Ann Lesiak;at home;and Mrs.Charles (Olga) Jakubs of North Charleroi;five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Frank Camino of Allen’s Crossroads;Rostraver Road;Rostraver Twp.;a former Belle Vernon businessman and chief of police;died Tuesday;July 6;1982;at 7:25 a.m.in the Jefferson Hills Convalescent Home;Jefferson Borough. He was 77. Mr.Camino was born in Belle Vernon on May 27;1905;a son of the late Dominic and Amelia Dillalo Camino. A lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon community;Mr.Camino was the former ploice chief of Belle Vernon Borough and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police where he had served as treasurer for many years. A former businessman in the Belle Vernon community;he had operated Camino’s Curb Service Restaurant. Mr.Camino also was a past employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;having worked for the Public Utility Commission and the Department of Revenue. He was a member of St.Sebastian R.C.Church;Belle Vernon;Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026 and a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Phelan General Assembly;Order of the Alhambra;Wamba Caravan 89;a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department;and a member of the Charleroi Hunting Lodge. Mr.Camino was a charter member of the Rostraver Lions Club;where he had been active for the past 30 years serving as chairman of the Blind Committee. He also was a member of the Charleroi Elks;A.A.R.P.;Isaak Walton League and the Fayette County Republican Committee for the past 35 years. He was preceded in death by two sisters;Mary Catrino in 1951 and Lena Foltz in 1982;and a brother;Louis Camino in 1979. Born Feb.7;1898 in Belle Vernon;she was the daughter of the late James and Harriet Woods Greene. Mrs.Carini was a life-long resident of the Belle Vernon community and was a member of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church of Belle Vernon. She was preceded in death by her husband;Deno Carini Sr.;March 28;1976;a daughter;Lenora in 1925;two brothers;Harry and John Greene and three sister;Lucritia Kuhn;Marjorie Carson and Ethel Greene. Monessen. He was born May 13;1972;in North Charleroi;a son of David and Carol Trozzo Childs;who survive. He was a fourth grade student in the Monessen Elementary School System;and was a member of St.Leonard’s R.C.Church;Monessen.
