She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon;where she was an elder;a choir member and particpated in the Martha Circle of Preabyterian Women and Adult Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Mimiriam Club of Belle Vernon and served on the former Christian Education Committee and the Committee of Ministry for the Redstone Presbytery. Born May 11; 1912; in Charleroi; she was the daughter of
the late George T. and Florence
Kendrick Barger.
Mrs. Jeffries was a member
and elder of the Charleroi Presbyterian Church.
She was past president of the
Charthene Club cf Charleroi; a
member and past president of
the Athena Club of Charleroi; a
member and board member of
the John K. Tener Library of
Charleroi; a former member of
the Friends of the Library and a
member of the Charleroi Historical Society.
She was an avid bridge
player.
A graduate of Charleroi High
School; Mrs. Jeffries earned her
bachelor and masters degrees
in English and reading education from California University
of Pennsylvania. She was a retired school teacher in the Charleroi Area School District;
where she taught reading and
English.
In addition to her parents;
she was preceded in death by a
brother; Phillip Barger.
Surviving are her husband of
58 years; Alfred T. Jeffries; a
daughter and son-in-law; Susan
and Ronald Watkins of Carroll
Township; two sons and a
daughter-in-law; Alfred T. Jeffries in of Providence; R.I.; and

brother and sister-in-law; John

He retired as a motor inspector at Wheeling-Pittsburgh
Steel’s Allenport plant.
Mr. Johnston was a 50-year member of Belle Vernon Masonic Lodge 643 F&AM;Uniontown Lodge of Perfection;Pittsburgh Consistory;life member of Syria Temple;Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 209 of Belle Vernon and a social member of the Belle Vernon Legion Club. He was also a charter member of the Belle Vernon Lions Club;where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow.
