Jess W.Kunka;76;of 28 Willow Drive;Monessen;died Monday;Feb.8;1993;in the Presbyterian University Hospital;Pittsburgh. He was born Aug.14;1916;in Monessen;a son of the late Michael and Mary Keller Kunka. Mr.Kunka had been employed at the Allenport plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co.in the oil well tubing department before retiring in 1979. A graduate of Monessen High School with the class of 1934;he served with the U.S.Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Monessen;Lodge 638 F&AM of Monessen and the Raven’s A.A. Mr.Kunka is survived by his wife;Leona Mendola Kunka;three children;Thomas G.of Uniontown;Bonnie of Monessen and Tracy Poydence of Sarver;Pa.;one grandson;Jordan;one sister;Myra Kunka of Fayette City;two brothers;Louis Kunka of Belle Vernon R.D.2 and Myron Kunka of Monessen;and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by a brother;Eugene Kunka. She was employed at the former Charleoi-Monessen Hospital as a nurses’ aide for 27 years. Kathryn (Katie) Kunca;84;of 1233 Nash Ave.;Monessen;died Tuesday;Oct.20;1992;in Washington Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs.Kunca was born Oct.10;1908;in California;Pa.;a daughter of the late Andrew and Susan Hanas. A lifelong Monessen resident;she had been employed as a cook at California University of Pennsylvania before retiring. Mrs.Kunca was a member of the Peoples’ Church of Belle
Vernon.
She was a former president of
the Monessen PTA; a former
member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary
of the Monessen Fire Department and Relief Association;
and a former Sunday School
teacher at St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Charleroi.
Mrs. Kunca had been active in
forming the Monessen Band
Parents’ Association.
Surviving are her husband;
Michael Kunca; two sons;
William C. Kunca of Belle Vernon and Michael A. Kunca of
Carolina Beach; N.C.; five
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers; Andrew Hanas of California; Pa.;

Born Sept.3;1927;in Grays Landing;he was the son of the late Hoyt N.and Elizabeth Oglethorpe Kite. Mr.Kite had lived in the Sweeney Plan for 34 years;having formerly resided in Lynnwood. A U.S.Army veteran of World War II;he served in Korea. He was a member of American Legion Post 659;Belle Vernon and was a life member of the Belle Vernon Moose. He retired in February;1989 as a die maker at the Fisher Body Plant of General Motors;West Mifflin.
