WILLIAM I. VANCE
Faulty wiring appears to be the cause of a fire in Perryopolis early yesterday morning;February 16;1981;that claimed one life. William Vance;39;was the victim of the blaze that destroyed his home. His wife and four children had been visiting with relatives in Belle Vernon when the fire broke out. The Vance home is located in the village of Victoria;between Perryopolis and Star Junction. Perryopolis fireman received the first fire call at 12:30 a.m. and arrived to find flames already coming out from the roof of the two-story frame house. The fire was under control in 30 to 40 minutes;but firemen remained on the scene until 6:30 a.m. Firemen encountered no problems with the water supply;although the fire hydrants were far apart as Victoria is on the edge of the borough’s water system. Perryopolis firemen laid 2;000 feet of hose to the hydrant closest to the Vance home and Fayette City hooked up to another fire hydrant near Route 51. The victim was found in the kitchen of his residence by fireman and was prounounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Deputy Coroner Herman Blair. Cause of death was attributed to extensive third degree burns. Mr.Vance was born July 23;1941 in Brownsville;the son of the late John and Marian Brockman Vance. He is survived by his widow;Dorothy Vance;two sons;William J.and Ronald Lee;both of the state of Michigan;three step-sons;James;Keith and Thomas;all at home;and a step-daughter;Audrey also at home. Private services were scheduled for today;February 17;1981 at 1 p.m. The Blair-Lowther Funeral Home;Perryopolis;was in charge of arrangements.
