One of Monessen’s pioneer food merchants;Wilbert O.Beery;died at 6 a.m.;Saturday morning;January 29;1972 in Monongahela Memorial Hospital. Mr.Beery was born July 28;1882;in Augusta;W.Va.;and had been a resident of Monessen since he was 18 years of age. He operated the Beery Food Store on Donner Ave.;Monessen;for many years;retiring at the age of 80. He and his wife;Nancy Pearl Layton Beery;had been married for 67 years. He was a life member and deacon of the First Christian Church of Monessen;a charter member and a past president of Monessen Kiwanis Club;and a member of Syria Temple Shriners of Pittsburgh. A 32nd Degree Mason;he was also a member of the Monessen Masonic Lodge.
