Hymie Cohen; retired Belle Vernon merchant who began selling fruit from a horse and wagon 55 years ago;died suddenly yesterday at 3:30 p.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Mr.Cohen;74;was well known throughtout the mid-Mon Valley. He was one of the first hucksters to convert to a truck;traveling throughout the area to sell fruit and produce. Later;he opened stores in Belle Vernon and Charleroi and remained active in business until his retirement two years ago. Mr.Cohen was in good health until suffering a stroke last February. He appeared to be recovering prior to becoming ill again yesterday. He lived at 211 Water St.;Belle Vernon. Surviving are his widow;Jean Moreau Cohen;a daughter;Mrs.Raymond Williams of Inglewood.Calif.;a son;Ned of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received after 7 p.m.;July;24 at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home in Belle Vernon.
