A Stockdale man was killed while his passanger escaped uninjured in a one-car accident on Route 201 near Rankin’s Crossroads in Rostraver Twp.;at 2:15 a.m.;Wednesday;Nov.10;1971. Richard Eugene Godfrey;22;of Stockdale;was killed almost instantly;according to James Stump;of Rostraver twp.;deputy Westmoreland County coroner;who investigated.Stump said Godfrey died from shock;a fractured skull and internal injuries. Mr.Godfrey was born in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital March 20;1949. He had served in the U.S.Army in Germany and had been discharged in February. He was a member of the Bentleyville American Legion;Charleroi Veterans of Foreign Wars;Allenport Rod & Gun Club;Stockdale Sokols and Roscoe Slovak Club. He had been employed at the Clairton Plant of U.S.Steel Corp. Surviving are his parents;Mr.and Mrs.Willard A.(Elizabeth Mikita)Godfrey;one brother;Willard of Cleveland;one sister;Mrs.William (Margaret) Laird of Monessen and paternal grandparents;Mr.and Mrs.Joseph Lucy of Ellsworth. Friends are being received in the Shelby Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;after 7 p.m.Wednesday.
