He was born Jan.16;1899 in Vesta;a son of Thomas and Kate Haywood. He had resided in the Carmichaels area for the past 18 years where he had also operated a greenhouse for the past five years. Mr.Haywood was well-known in area baseball circles;having played in his earlier days with the Fairmont and Wheeling professional teams as a second baseman. He had also coached the Mapletown Little League team and the Pony League team at Elizabeth. He was a member of the Carmichaels Methodist Church;the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers and the Moose Lodge in Roscoe. His first wife;Gertrude M.Haywood;died in 1958. Surviving are his widow;Harriett Frederick Haywood;two daughters;Mrs.Willard (Aldena) Usher of Elco and Mrs.John (Delores) Webousie of Roscoe;three sons;the Rev.Earl D.Haywood of Medford;Mass.and Edward A.Haywood and Dennis D.Haywood;both of Carmichaels;two stepchildren;Fred C.Clark of Kent;Ohio and Kathleen Clark of Pittsburgh;ten grandchildren;five great-grandchildren;four brothers;Arthur of Brownsville;Melvin of Allenport;Charles of Vesta and George of Ellsworth.
