He was born Jan.16;1899 in Vesta;a son of Thomas and Kate Haywood. He had resided in the Carmichaels area for the past 18 years where he had also operated a greenhouse for the past five years. Mr.Haywood was well-known in area baseball circles;having played in his earlier days with the Fairmont and Wheeling professional teams as a second baseman. He had also coached the Mapletown Little League team and the Pony League team at Elizabeth. He was a member of the Carmichaels Methodist Church;the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers and the Moose Lodge in Roscoe. His first wife;Gertrude M.Haywood;died in 1958.
