Monessen Police Chief Joseph Mischyshyn said today that John Hardy Sr.;62 Schoonmaker Ave.;Monessen;died as the result of being struck by an automobile early Friday morning;Dec.23;1977. He was found lying on a sidewalk in the 200 block of Schoonmaker Ave.;at 2:37 a.m.Friday and rushed to Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:51 a.m. Mischyshyn and Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D.Yoney requested an autopsy which was performed yesterday in Allegheny County. The report indicated Hardy’s death was due to multiple blunt injuries to the head and chest. It was determined Mr.Hardy was struck by a motor vehicle which then failed to stop. He was born in Jacksonville;Fla.;on June 30;1921. He was a member of Mt.Calvary Baptist Church;Monessen. Surviving are one son;John Hardy Jr.of Monessen;two daughters;Joyce Blackley of Monessen and Viola Griffin of Baltimore;Md.;six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. James W.Houseman;63;former principal at Marion Elementary School in the Belle Vernon Area School District;died at 4:50 a.m. today in St.Francis Hospital;Pittsburgh. He resided at 1322 Fayette Ave;Belle Vernon. Born in Rostraver Twp.on April 8;1914;he was a son of the late Clyde and Tillie Beeler Houseman. Mr.Houseman was a past president of the Washington Twp.Lions Club. He was a member and elder and former Sunday School teacher at Marion Presbyterian Church and also belonged to the Belle Vernon American Legion and the Fairhope Rod and Gun Club. He was graduated from California State College and received his master’s degree from Waynesburg College. Mr.Houseman retired from his position as principal at Marion School on July 28;1975. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S.Air Force during World War II and had completed 25 missions while serving in England. Surviving are his widow;Betty Seman Houseman;and two brothers;Clyde Houseman of Belle Vernon and Warren Houseman of Buena Park;Calif.
