James C.Jewell;79;of Maderia St.;New Eagle;died Sunday;May 20;1973;at 9:50 a.m.in Monongahela Division of Mon Valley Hospital. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church;Monongahela and was senior vice commander of American Legion Post 302;Monongahela. Mr.Jewell had retired in 1959 as engineer with Penn Central railroad;Shire Oaks Yard;after 47 years of service. Surviving are his widow;Elsie Sowatzki Jewell;one daughter;Mrs.Clifford E.(Anna mae) Harn of Belle Vernon;one son;James C.Jewell of Erie;one sister;Mrs.Susie Jewell Brown of Donora;eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Toner-Essey Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;from 7 to 9 p.m.Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.Ronald Glassman of First Presbyterian Church;Monongahela;officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
