Thomas William Muir;64;of 1042 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Wednesday;January 20;1960;at 3:30 p.m.;when he was crushed by his own mail truck. The acident occurred one mile south of Belle Vernon in Washington Twp. State police report states that Mr.Muir was leaning from the wheel-side door placing mail in a box and is believed to have lost his balance as he leaned from the vehicle. His foot apparently slipped from the brake and the truck drifted forward crushing Mr.Muir. Bill Muir was familiarly known to young and old throughout Belle Vernon and the district. He was a veteran;both of the U.S.Postal Service and of the Meuse-Argonne campaign in France during World War One. The news of his death continued to be a shocking circumstance for hundreds of people;not only in Belle Vernon and Lynnwood;but over in Speers where he was also widely known. Thomas William Muir was a resident of 1042 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon and a postman for 35 years. He was Commander of Barracks No.350;Veterans of World War one and the Belle Vernon Camera Club. His religious affiliations were with the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon where he was an honored member and was superintendent of the Sunday School and was an elder. Mr.Muir was past master of Belle Vernon Lodge No.643;Free and Accepted Masons. It was a tragic reflection that Bill had planned to retire this coming summer. He is survived by his wife;Mrs.Edna Pearl Thirkield Muir and a daughter;Mrs.Edwin (Margaret) Szynansky;two sisters;Mrs.Charles (Jean) Strenske and Miss Janet Muir and one grandchild;of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Toner Funeral Home during hours of 1 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday evening;January 23;at 7:30 o’clock;and private interment will take place in Belle Vernon cemetery;Sunday at 10 a.m. Dr.S.Arthur Talman will be in charge. Mrs.Eva Valena Mountsier;88;of 123 Pearl street;Belle Vernon;died in the Waddington Rest Home;December 19;1959;at 7:10 p.m. She was born in Jefferson;September 10;1871;and had resided in Belle Vernon forty-seven years. She was a member of the First Methodist church of Belle Vernon. Preceded in death by her husband;George Mountsier;August 30;1945;she is survived by one son;Fred of Craven Hill;two daughters;Mrs.Hugh B.(Hazel)Dunn;Sr.and Mrs.James S.(Georgia) Naccarato;Belle Vernon;two brothers;Harry Green of Brownsville;and John Green of Texas;one sister;Mrs.William Randolph of New Kensington;seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home.Services will be held there December 23;at 1:30 p.m.;in charge of Rev.William Schatz;and interment will follow in Belle Vernon cemetery. Frank R.Michener;66;of 112 Jean street;Belle Vernon;died in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital;Thursday;October 15;1959;at 7 a.m. He was employed at the Allenport plant of the Pittsburgh Steel Company. He is survived by his wife;Mercy Myford Michener;one son;Myford of Belle Vernon;two daughters;Mrs.Joseph (Ruth) Bruno;Dunlevy;Mrs.Joseph (Jessie) Caputo;Levittown;Pa.;one brother;Donald of Roscoe;and a nephew;Edward Michener of Speers;who lived for many years with the Micheners. Also surviving are six grandchildren. Mrs.Myrtle Manown;85;of 215 Sixth St.;Monongahela;died Saturday;September 5;1959;at 1:40 p.m.after a long illness. Born in Gibsonton;Aug.23;1874;Mrs.Manown had lived in Monongahela for 34 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Macabees Lodge. She is survived by a son;Voyle Manown of Chicago;Ill.;a daughter;Vella;at home and two grandchildren.
