A Belle Vernon Area High School teacher was killed on Monday;April 7;1969;when his sports car crossed the medial divider on Route 51 near Perryopolis and crashed into another automobile. Robert E.Peffer;26;of Crestview Apartments;Sweeney Plan;Belle Vernon R.D.2;was prounounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Deputy Coroner Herman Blair of Perryopolis. According to State Police;Peffer was traveling north on Route 51 two miles north of Perryopolis when he lost control of his car. The vehicle spun;crossed the divider and struck a car driven by Dean P.Roberts;20;of 15 Federal St.;Perryopolis. The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. Roberts;who like Peffer;was alone in his car;suffered bruises of the head and cuts. Damage to the Peffer car was estimated at $800 and to Roberts’ car $1;400. Peffer had taught chemistry for the past five years at Belle Vernon Area High School;going there after a year as a science teacher in Prince George County;Md. He was graduated from Charleroi High School in 1960 and from California State College in 1963. His widow;the former Donice Boston of Belle Vernon;is a teacher at Hempfield High School. Also surviving are his parents;Mr.and Mrs.Robert Peffer;716 Water St.;North Charleroi;and his grandmother;Mrs.Rose Shipley;also of North Charleroi. William A.Pancook;56;of Belle Vernon R.D.3 was prounced dead of a self-inflicted bullet wound of the temple at 11:15 a.m.March 28;1969;at his home at 51 Mobile Trailer Court;Belle Vernon R.D.3;Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D.Yoney reported. Mr.Pancook;Yoney said;had been despondent over a lingering illness. Mr.Pancook was born in Monessen and had been a resident of the Valley most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II;having served with the Sixth Armored Division. He was office manager for the Bureau of Corporate Taxes in the State Office Bldg.;Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his mother;May B.Sherwin Pancook;Jan.3;1965. Survivors are his widow;Hazel of Harrisburg;one daughter;Mrs.Charles (Rosemary) Korbelli;Frederick;Md.;one sister;Mrs.Fred (Fern) Allen of Fellsburg;and a brother;Everett Pancook;of Monessen;athletic and vocational director in the Monessen public school system. Mrs.Florence Winstone Popp;60;of New Eagle;formerly of Monessen;died Sunday;Nov.10;1968;at 1:35 p.m.in Monongahela Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. August Petrak;74;of 1215 Lower Meadow Ave.;Charleroi;was found dead at his home on Saturday;Oct.10;1968. Death was attributed to natural causes. Neighbors notified police when Mr.Petrak hadn’t been seen for a day-and-a-half. Mr.Petrak;who was born in Czechoslovakia on April 29;1894;was a retired employee of the Allenport plant of Pittsburgh Steel Co. Surviving are a son;Edward of Miami;Fla.;two grandchildren. A three-year-old Monessen boy;Carl Thomas Pesi;died Saturday Aug.17;1968;of injuries received when he fell from a roof behind his home at 451 Schoonmaker Ave. According to Monessen police;the youngster apparently scaled a small fence on the back porch and walked out onto the roof of Rem’s Electric warehouse located in the rear. He toppled from the roof 30 feet to the concrete pavement. The accident happened at about 7:15 p.m. The youngster was taken to Charleroi-Monessen Hospital;where he succumbed at 10:10 p.m. Death was attributed by Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen Yoney to a fractured skull and brain damage. The youngster is the son of Carl L.and Rita Hasch Pesi. He was born in North Charleroi on May 5;1965. Surviving;besides his parents;are a brother;George at home;paternal grandparents;Mr.and Mrs.Carl L.Pesi of Fairhope;maternal grandparents;Mr.and Mrs.John Hasch of Donora;paternal great-grandparents;Mr.and Mrs.Carlo Pesi of Belle Vernon.
