ALBERT N. ROBERTS
Treacherous ice conditions on Route 71 near Cokeburg early today claimed the life of Albert N.Roberts;22-year-old Belle Vernon man;when his car overturned. Roberts was dead on arrival at Washington Hospital shortly after the mishap. Frances Blatnik;21;Fayette City companion of the victim;was shaken severely in the accident but was later released from the hospital. Roberts;who lived at 213 Henry street;was believed to have been instantly killed when the car rolled over him after he was thrown to the roadside. Troopers estimated damage to the car at $1;000. Indications were that the machine went into a skid as Roberts;who was at the wheel;approached a curve. The car smashed into a concrete abutment;hurling both occupants clear;but Roberts was crushed to death when pinned under the overturned vehicle. Troopers of Washington headquarters detachment made an investigation on the scene and set the time of the acccident at about 1:30 a.m. The pronouncement was made at the hospital as dead on arrival at about 3 a.m. It was reported that the young couple was returning from a visit in Washington. The highway was icy in spots last night along the entire length of Route 71 and it was on one of these unexpected danger points that the machine went out of control. He was employed by the Fisher Body plant in Clairton. Surviving are his parents;Charles and Bertha Mossburg Roberts;two sisters;Miss Mae Roberts at home and Mrs. Aldo (Ruth) Stagi of Charleroi.
