Bryan Croushore Guiler;38;well known in the upper Monongahela Valley;and up until two years ago;a resident of Belle Vernon;died at his home;251 South Berendo street;Los Angeles;Calif.on Friday Aug.5;1938;at 5:30 p.m.as the result of being severly gassed by acetylene fumes while in the aviation service during the World War. Born in Belle Vernon; the son of
the late Edwin S. Guiler and Mrs
Elizabeth Guiler McKean; now of
Washington; he attended the public
schools of Belle Vernon and the Monessen
High School. On January 25;1918; when but 18 years of age he
enlisted in the aviation service and after
receiving training was assigned
to the 379th Aero Squadron; Carruthers
Field; Fort Worth; Texas.
He was advanced to corporal July 10;
1918 and transferred to Kelly Field;
Texas. His outfit was preparing to
leave for overseas when the Armistice
was signed. Mr. Guiler was a
former member of Post 659; American
Legion and the First Methodist
Episcopal Church of Belle Vernon.
He is survived by his wife; Mrs.
Margaret McGraw Guiler; of Los Angeles;
his mother; Mrs. Elizabeth
McKean and a sister; Mrs. H. W.
Steinman; East Washington and one
brother; Karl E. Guiler; of East. Williston; Long Island. Funeral services were held Monday;August;8;1938;at Los Angeles;followed by cremation. The ashes were mailed to the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home in Belle Vernon. Private funeral services will be held at the Toner Funeral Home at 5 o’clock on August 12;1938;with Rev.J.Meade Daugherty;pastor of the Belle Vernon M.E.Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
