A double funeral was held this afternoon;Friday;May 7;1926;with a brother and sister being laid side by side in their grave;victims of influenza. The deceased are Thomas Arthur and his sister Mrs.Mattie McCafferty. The brother and sister lived together for years on Water street;Belle Vernon;the sister keeping house for the brother;neither having any other near relatives. Two weeks ago both were taken ill with influenza and with no one to administer to them they were sent to the Charleroi-Monessen hospital. The brother;aged 44 years;contacted pneumonia and passed away on April 30. Hopes were entertained for the recovery of the sister and she was not told of her brother’s death as the attending physician feared a relapse. It was decided to keep the body until the sister had recovered sufficiently to attend the funeral;but the death angel interferred with the plans and the sister;taking a turn for the worse;passed away yesterday;May 6;1926;and the double funeral today May 7;1926;resulted.
