Mrs.Anna Solak;aged 85 years;died Saturday afternoon;February 25;1939;at her home in Belle Vernon;following an illness of two weeks with pneuonia. She was born in Czceho-Slovakia and was a member of the St.Cyril and Methodious Church in Charleroi. Surviving is one daughter;Mrs.Ann Kovack;of Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock from the Catholic Church with Father Sedlak officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon cemetery. Friends will be received prior to the funeral at the home of the daughter;902 Graham street;Belle Vernon.

JOHN JOSEPH STEVENSON
John J.Stevenson;aged 57 years;died at 7 o’clock Friday morning;Feb.10;1939;at his home;324 Oneida street;after an illness of six months. For the past ten days his condition had been critical. Mr.Stevenson was born in Elizabeth;Pa.;and was educated in the parochial schools of McKeesport. He came to Monessen in 1902;and for a period of over 20 years was employed as bricklayer foreman at the Page Steel & Wire company. He also served a term as street commissioner;and at the time he was taken ill;in August of last year;was in the employ of the Pittsburgh Steel company as senior mason foreman. He was a member of St.Leonard’s Church and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife;Elizabeth Currie Stevenson;and three children;Mrs.Miriam Edwards;John F.Stevenson and Robert Stevenson. One grandchild;Gloria Jean Edwards;also survives;along with his mother;Mrs.Catherine Stevenson;of Elizabeth;one brother;Ambrose Stevenson of Canton;Ohio;and the following sisters;Mrs.Rose Weiley of Rockwood;Mrs.Jean Leffler of Scottdale;Mrs.Mary Haben of Pittsburgh;Mrs.Agnes Bennett of Elizabeth;Mrs.Margaret Tatach;Monessen and Mrs.Katherine Keefer of Monessen. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 8 o’clock from St.Leonard’s Church;with interment following in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Charles E.Smith;aged 70 years;died suddenly Sunday afternoon;January 29;1939;at his home on Ontario street in Monessen. He had been ailing for several days but his condition was not considered serious. He had been a resident of Monessen for the past forty years;coming here from Lunaconing;Md.;when Monessen was first incorporated as a borough. He had been employed as a weightmaster at the Page mill. Surviving are his wife;Josephine Coleman Smith;and the following children;Anna Coleman Smith of Johnstown;Robert Smith; Mrs.Claire Pritchard;William;Rose and Harry;all of Monessen. Three grandchildren also survive;along with two sisters;Mrs.Harry Miller of Derry and Mrs.Bertha Schaffer of Johnstown. Funeral services are announced for Wednesday afternoon February 1;1939;at 2 o’clock from his home;with Rev.J.R.McFarland;pastor of the Presbyterian Church;officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs.Mary Sisley (nee McDonough) wife of the late George W.Sisley;died yesterday;September 25;1938;at 3:20 p.m.;at the family residence in Sampson Street;Belle Vernon. Mrs.Sisley was in her 56th year and was well known in the Belle Vernon district. She leaves two sons;Austin of Belle Vernon and Mark of Stockdale and one daughter;Martha;at home;four sisters and four brothers. The remains are at the C.L.Melenyzer Funeral home where they may be viewed until time for funeral services Wednesday morning at 9:30 o’clock in St.Sebastian Catholic Church;.Belle Vernon. Burial will be in Belle Vernon cemetery.
