She came to Speers fifty years ago from New England;and was a memeber of the Speers Methodist Church;the Ladies Aid Society of Speers;and the Home and Hospital Club of Speers. She is survived by one son;Murel Sneed of Charleroi;five daughters;Mrs.Clara Burdick of Westville;New Jersey;Mrs.Virginia Bickerton of Speers Hill;Mrs.Elsie Tuccelli of North Charleroi;and Alma and Eleanor Sneed at home;one brother;James Hilton of Homestead;six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs.Josephine Smith;235 Knox avenue;died Thursday evening;September 23;1948;at 8:15 p.m.while visiting at the home of her niece;Mrs.Ralph Litzinger;in Johnstown;Pa. Mrs.Smith was a pioneer resident of Monessen;having resided here the past 50 years. She was born in Johnstown. Her husband;Charles Smith;preceded her in death in 1930. Surviving are the following children;Robert;Mrs.Rose McDermott;William and Harry;all of Monessen;and Mrs.Claire Ulmer of Springdale. Five grandchildren also survive;along with a sister;Mrs.Emmett McNally and two brothers;Henry and Robert Coleman;all of Johnstown. Mrs.Stevenson was a member of the Christian Church of this city;and a past member of the Pythian Sisters in Lonaconing. On July 27;Mr.and Mrs.Stevenson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Surviving is her husband;Richard H.Stevenson;a daughter;Mrs.Martha Hornbecker;Beaver Falls;three sons;George of Ohio;Richard Jr.and Jack;of Monessen. Sgt.Melvin Spiker;22;former Marion High School athlete and honor student;was killed in action in France on July 8;1944;his parents;Mr.and Mrs.Emerson Spiker of Fairhope;were notified in a telegram from the War Department. Sergeant Spiker;who was class president for his four high school years and valedictorian of his graduating class;had been in service two years and overseas four months. Before entering the armed forces he was employed at the Macbeth Division of the Corning Glass Works in Charleroi. He was assistant Boy Scout Master of Fairhope Troop One before entering the service. Surviving are his parents;two brothers;Elmer and Emerson;Jr.;two sisters;Marion and Gladys and two cousins who made their home with his parents;Genevieve Philp and Connie Carr. His body will arrive in Charleroi Thursday morning;June 3;1948;at 11 a.m.;and will be taken immediately to the McCrory Funeral Home;and later to the home of his parents in Fairhope. Services will be held there Saturday;June;1948;at 2 p.m.;in charge of Rev.George Guess and Major Neil Hood;the latter of the Salvation Army at Allentown.
