Death Sunday afternoon;November 24;1935;at 4:30 o’clock removed one of Monessen’s pioneer residents;when Mr.William Watkins died at the home of his son;Sydney Watkins;at 1110 McMahon avenue. Mr.Watkins had been ailing for the past six weeks;bur arose as usual Sunday morning;dressed for the day and ate a hearty breakfast. About the noon hour;he suffered a heart attack;and a doctor was summoned;but he remained about the same and about 4 o’clock suffered another attack which resulted in his death. He was aged 85 years. Mr.Watkins was born in England on Feb.8;1850 and was an interesting character. He was a member of the Methodist Church and took a keen interest in civic affairs. Surviving are the following children;Sydney Watkins;of Monessen;Arthur L.Watkins;of South Bay;Star Lakes;N.Y.;William Watkins;of Canton;Ohio;and Mrs.I.M.Schoffstall;of Girard;Ohio. A brother;Thomas Watkins;of Rankin;Pa.;also survives;along with a half brother;Sydney Wate;of Philadelphia. Funeral services are announced for Wednesday afternoon;November 27;1935;at 2 o’clock from the home of Sydney Watkins;1110 McMahon avenue;with interment to follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
