Albert Gallatin Van Hook;aged 64;one of Monongahela’s well-know citizens;died at his home at Monongahela;Sunday morning;May 30;1915. Mr.Van Hook had been ill but had recently recovered. Saturday he felt so well that he made a trip to Pittsburg. Sunday morning he was seized with a paronysm of coughing during which he burst a blood vessel. Death came soon after. The son of Samuel and Marian Van Hook;the deceased was born in Fayette county. He came to Monongahela some years ago. For many years he was engaged in the glass industry;being for long an employee of the American Window Glass company. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Monongahela. He stood high in Masonic circles being a member of the Henry M.Phillips lodge;Monongahela Royal Arch Masons;ME Moriah council;Pittsburg Commandery No.1;Pennsylvania Corsistory. Mr.Van Hook leaves a wife and one son;Leon;who lives in Columbus. He was a relative of Mr.and Mrs.John H.Bowers of Charleroi. The funeral services were held at the late home Tuesday afternoon;;June 1;1915;at 1 o’clock and were in charge of the Knights Templar of Pittsburg. Interment was at Belle Vernon.

Herbert l.Fields of Monessen;was killed in action on September 26;1918;in France. Word was received by Mrs.Amy Fields that the body of her son Herbert;who met death on the battle fields of France;would arrive Thursday;August 25;1921;at Hoboken and would be shipped to this city for interment. The young man was employed at the Beaver Refining company plant in Washington when war broke out and he immediately enlisted in Company H;110th Infantry. He located there and went with the company to Camp Hancock;Augusta;Ga.;for training. Previous to this he had served on the Mexican border. He served throughout the second battle of the Marne and on the Vesle river without accident;but while making a charge with his squad in the Argonne forests;on the morning of September 26th;he was instantly killed;when struck in the head by a one pounder. Henry Christian;a local lad;was his buddy and related the story of his death. The body will be brought to the home of his mother;Mrs.Amy Fields of 1218 Schoonmaker avenue and the American Legion will take charge of the funeral services. Interment will be made in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
