Born April 5; 1923; in Belle Vernon; he was a son of the late Andrew and Eva Malaga. He was a retired carpenter from the Local Carpenters Union and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. John S. Rip Shylock; 90; of Stockdale; died Wednesday; Nov. 23; 2005; in Mon Valley Hospital Inc. after a six-month illness. He was born May 4; 1915; in New Jersey; a son of the late Frank and Mary Shylock. He was a life member of the Roscoe Slovak Club and a member of the Allenport Rod and Gun Club and Roscoe American Legion Post 801. Mr. Shylock spent his entire life in restaurant service. Locally; he worked for the Coal Baron in Uniontown; Mon Valley Country Club; Holiday Inn; and Lower Level. While residing in Washington; D.C.; Mr. Shylock was employed in Hogatis Spectacular Seaford Restaurant and; for 13 years; he and his wife Katherine owned and operated Rip and Kay’s Wheeler Restaurant Inc. in Washington; D.C. Just a few of their famous clientele included the FBI and Naval Research Lab employees; Andrews Air Force Base residents; and the Washington Redskins owners and players. Rip was nationally and internationally known as a chef; captain and maitre d’ throughout England; Switzerland and France; where he instructed French chefs and waiters how to properly prepare and serve American food. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Katherine Manos Shylock; of Stockdale: a son; William Rip Shylock of Dallas; Texas; two grandchildren; John and Tanya Shylock; and one great-granddaughter; Hannah Michelle Shylock; one brother; Joseph Shylock; of Carmichaels; two sisters; Ann and Kay; and many nieces and nephews. Private services were held for Antonio Tony Vitale; 87; of Monongahela (Carroll Township); formerly of Monessen; who passed away at his home on Wednesday; Nov. 23; 2005. Tony was born Dec. 15; 1917; in Charleroi; a son of the late Antonio and Raffaela Petrone Vitale. He was a U.S. Army veteran; having served during World War II. After the war; he returned to work and retired in 1980 from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel after 44 years of service. He was affectionately known to his family; as well as many friends; as Uncle Tony . Ann McCauley; loving mother and grandmother; of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Nov. 22; 2005; in Mon Valley Hospital. She was 92 years old; a daughter of the late Wassil and Anna Veletich Moneta and was born in Neffs; Ohio; on April 18; 1913. Mrs. McCauley was a member of Pricedale Union Church; where she was very active in the bereavement group; the church board and many other volunteer efforts. A life-long resident of Belle Vernon; she retired in 1978 after 20 years from Corning Glass. LYNWARD DEWEY ( LYNN ) GREENE JR
Lynward Lynn Dewey Greene Jr.; 75; a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie; N.Y.; formerly of Charleroi; passed away Wednesday; Nov. 16; 2005. He was born May 22; 1930; a son of the late Lynward Dewey Sr. and Estelle Elizabeth Greene. He was a former employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and an active member of Union Baptist Church in Monessen; under the patronship of H.A.S. Cook. After graduating high school; Mr. Greene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served active duty in Alaska as a communications technician. After being honorably discharged from the military; he attended and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He returned to Charleroi; where he married his high school sweetheart; Barbara Anne Avery; on April 2; 1955. Mr. Greene moved his new family to the Mid-Hudson Valley in the early 1960’s; where he was employed by the IBM Corporation as an instructor/trainer. He soon became a programmer and electrical engineer at the Poughkeepsie Main Plant. Lynn rapidly moved up the corporate ladder and became a field engineer; working out of the Fox St. Office. He finished his career in Senior Management for the World Trade Division. After retiring from IBM; Mr. Greene worked as an environmental Technician at PARC in Brewster; N.Y.; for several years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years; Barbara; sons; Ronald; Daryl; John and Gregory; all of Poughkeepsie; sisters; Klara Brown; of Bronx; N.Y.; Dorothy Byrd; of Donora; and Jessie Reed Reynolds; of Annandale; Va.; one brother; Donald Greene; of Woodbridge; Md.; three granddaughters; Erika and Brittany Greene; of Charlotte; N.C.; and Darcie Greene; of Poughkeepsie; one grandson; Gregory Nathan Greene; and one great-granddaughter; Lailani Hull; and a host of nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends. Glenn R. Pete Ramsey; 74; of North Charleroi; died Saturday; Nov. 19; 2005; in his home following a long illness. Mr. Ramsey was born Sept. 6; 1931; in Hazelwood; a son of the late John W. and Julia Jude Ramsey. He was a member of the Mon Valley YMCA and retired from Mon Valley Hospital. Mr. Ramsey also served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 44 years; Elizabeth L.
