Nellie M. Basile; 81; of Belle Vernon (Fairhope) was called home to her God; on Wednesday; January 9; 2008 in her home. A daughter of the late William and Frances Goletz Malinowski; she was born in Fairhope on March 24; 1926. Nellie was a lifetime member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church of Fayette City and was formerly a member of the Friends of the Veterans and the Valley of Hope prayer group. She retired in 1988 from the Washington Twp. Municipal Authority. Nellie was a loving wife; mother; grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Clifford H. Toth; 87; a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; went to be with the Lord on Tuesday; Oct. 30; 2012; at his home; surrounded by his family. A son of the late John and Cora Smith Toth; he was born in Arnold City; on March 20; 1925. He was a member of the St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon; a past Quartermaster of the Belle Vernon VFW Post No. 699; a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post No. 659; and graduated from Belle Vernon High School as a member of the Class of 1944. Cliff served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy; and then he and his late brother Joseph were the co-owners of the former Toth Brothers Market in Belle Vernon. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his brothers John; Thomas; Lou; Stephen; Joseph and Melvin Toth. Survivors include his wife of 68 years; Theresa A. Arthur V. Steiner; 81; of North Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; May 7; 2013; at Allegheny General Hospital; Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 3; 1931; in Pricedale; he was the son of the late James G. and Corrine Hershey Steiner. Mr. Steiner was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; a retired mill wright from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Allenport Plant; and a veteran of Korean War; where he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659; VFW Belle Vernon Post 699; Belle Vernon Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 209; Am Vets of Hopwood; Pricedale Russian Club; Pricedale Hungarian Club; Fayette City Naomi Club and the Monessen Croatian Club. Mary Ann Rainey Sethman;85;of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township);passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday;August 6;2009;following a birthday celebration where she was surrounded by her family and friends. She died in her childhood home;where she resided for over 80 years. Born August 5;1924;in East McKeesport;she was the daughter of the late George W.and Mary Ann Hardy Rainey. Her family shortly after moved to Rostraver Township and settled in Red Town ;a close-knit patch town for families of coal miners and mill workers. Her mother Granny Rainey ;served as Red Town’s midwife;taking along young Mary Ann to assist;thus launching her 60 year career in nursing. The Rainey family was proud of their Scottish heritage;holding fast to the principals of family;religion;education and thriftiness. Mary received a perfect attendance award for Sunday school in 1937 and graduated from Rostraver High School in 1942. Mary entered Columbia School of Nursing in 1942 passing a rigorous screening process. Living on campus in Pittsburgh;she was required to attend operas and formal teas in addition to learning Latin. She and her Red Town sweetheart;Harry Sethman Jr.;bade their goodbyes at the train station;now the Grand Concourse;he departed for the way on the Queen Mary;and she returned to her studies. Mary began her professional career steriliaing equipment;preparing pharmaceuticals and washing newborns in assembly line fashion at the start of the post war baby boom. She and Harry married in 1945;celebrating 55 years in Red Town;raising their four children;10 grandchildren;and five great-grandchildren. After earning her RN;Mary’s professional employment included working in various capacities at Connellsville Hospital;Charleroi-Monessen Hospital;Monongahela Hospital (Emergency Room Head Nurse);Monongahela Vally Hospital (Outpatient Surgery Head Nurse) retiring in 1987. She participated in the World Nursing Tour in 1984;touring hospitals in Spain and North Africa. She continued her nursing career at Prime Medical Group in Belle Vernon until 2000. Mary was also a past member of the Belle Vernon Order of the Eastern Star and Pricedale Union Church. She also enjoyed fishing;traveling;cooking;painting and handiwork. She lived for family get-togethers and was known for her honesty;her sharp mind;organizational skills and her strong work ethic. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law;Richard G.and Holly Sethman;of Scenery Hill;and Timothy and Darla Sethman;of Rostraver Township;two daughters and sons-in-law;Donna and Daniel Bennett;of Monessen;and Diana and Richard Burger;of Rostraver Township;10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
