Ethel B. Venneri; 86; of Belle Vernon; died Monday; July 7; 2008; in Mon Valley Care Center. A daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth Turnbull Sethman; she was born in Charleroi on October 18; 1921. Episcopalian by faith; she was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of both the Belle Vernon American Legion and the Belle Vernon Fire Company. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; she was an avid bowler and bocce player and had been employed by Valdiserri’s Bakery in the 1960’s and 70’s. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Vicki and Vince Costanza; of Rostraver Township; two sons and daughters-in- law; Art and Carleen Baumgardner; of Belle Vernon; and Bill and Kim Venneri; of New Bern; N.C.; three sisters and one brother-in-law; Hannah Bennett; of Belle Vernon; Martha and George Warner; of Springfield; Mo.; and Fonnie Calametti; of Belle Vernon; one sister-in-law; Mary Sethman; of Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren; Michele Dudgeon Ferrara and husband Dan; of Washington Crossing; Becky Baumgardner; of Pittsburgh; Jayson Baumgardner; of Fairfax; Va.; Chad Venneri and wife Jessie; of Deltona; Fla.; Mike Venneri and wife Bri; of Wahalla; S.C.; and Vinne Costanza and Vienna Costanza; both of Belle Vernon; four great-grandchildren; Summer Baumgardner; Madison Ferrara; Mason Ferrara and Riley Ann Venneri; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; William ‘Ducky’ Venneri; in 1991; one daughter; Wilma Jean Dudgeon; in 1972; three sisters; Midge Carr; Dorothy Rainey and Norma Jean Seibert; three brothers; Richard; Harry and Howard Sethman; and several nieces and nephews; including Patty Gerda. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY INC. JAMES C. ( CHINNY ) JOHNSTON
James C. Chinny Johnston; 93; of Speers Hill; passed away Monday; July 8; 2013; in Lafayette; La. A son of the late Robert and Isabell Carrick Johnston; he was born in Floreffe; Jan. 24; 1920. James was a member of the Pricedale Union Church; Russian Club of Charleroi and; during his years at the former Rostraver High School; was a star basketball player. He worked as a steel worker at the Allenport Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel until his retirement in 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Crowley during World War II; and was awarded six battle stars during his service. Jim was an avid gardener and was well known for his prized tomatoes. Survivors include his wife of 66 years; Catherine Kornosky Johnston of Speers Hill; one son; James Johnston of Crownsville; Md.; two daughters and sons-in-law; Judy and David Johnson of Barnesville; Md.; and Kim and John Krener of Lafayette; La.; one sister; Florence Weir of Rostraver Township; and six grandchildren; James Johnston III; Scott Johnston; David Johnson; Abby Johnson; John Cody Krener and Cole Krener. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by three sisters; Agnes Krett; Isabell Johnston and Martha McBride; and two brothers; Thomas and Robert Johnston. Lillian G. Scholl Kray; 63; of Fayette City; died Wednesday; April 9; 2008; in UPMC Presbyterian; Pittsburgh. Born in Belmont; N.Y.; on July 19; 1944; she was the daughter of Russell and Betty Okeson Fanton; who survive and reside in Belmont. Lillian was a retired social worker. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Belle Vernon; she also was a member of the Bell Choir of the church. In addition to her parents; she is survived by her husband; Louis E. Kray; one son and daughter-in-law; Erik D. and Laurie Scholl; of Fayette City; one daughter and son-in-law; Kirsten R. and Sean Dougherty; of Havre de Grace; Md.; six grandchildren; Ryan and Brennan Treadwell; Caelan and Eryn Scholl; and Patrick and Scott Dougherty; and three brothers; Eugene Fanton; of Belmont; Roger Fanton; of Pavilion; N.Y.; and Ronald Fanton; of Belmont.
