Rose Marie Trozzo; 96; of Belle Vernon; died Friday; Jan. 31; 2014; at 3:26 p.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital; Monongahela. Born May 4; 1917; in Belle Vernon; she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Carolina Nudi Trozzo. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; Mrs. Trozzo was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and retired from Corning Glass in 1999. She was a member of the Anita Garibaldi of Belle Vernon; Belle Vernon Golden Age Assembly and AARP of Fellsburg. The last surviving member of her immediate family; she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two brothers; Tony Trozzo and James Trozzo; and three sisters; Mary Muoio; Josephine Trozzo and Angeline DeMarco. Angeline Trozzo DeMarco; 90; of Belle Vernon; died Thursday; Sept. 17; 2009; at 6 p.m. at Mon Valley Care Center; Carroll Township. Born March 1;1919; in Belle Vernon; she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Carolina Nudo Trozzo. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; Mrs. DeMarco was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Anita Garibaldi Belle Vernon Lodge; Belle Vernon; and Fayette City Golden Age Assemblies; and the former Belle Vernon American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 659. She is survived by her husband; Emil DeMarco; to whom she was married 69 years; daughter Toni and Paul Badzik of Moon Township; three grandchildren; Paul Badzik; Scott Badzik and Denise Nutter; a sister; Rose Trozzo of Belle Vernon; and seven great-grandchildren. Garnet Irene Stephens Morris; 102; of Newell; passed away Friday; Jan. 17; 2014; in Monongahela Valley Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 14; 1911; in Dickerson Run; daughter of the late Curtis James Stephens and the late Lillian Lynn Stephens. She was a member of the Newell United Methodist Church. Garnet was retired from California University of Pennsylvania; where she worked in the payroll department. Garnet resided in Newell her whole married life. She was a very proud and happy 102 year-old and never shied away from telling her age. Carol said her mom left their home only to come back to just a house; but with all the love her mother gave; it will someday be a home again. She was loved by all members of family; friends and neighbors. May God give her the peace her 102 years deserves. Valia G. D’Alfonso Ray; entered into rest at Monongahela Valley Hospital on Dec. 15; 2011; having enjoyed a long life of 97 years. She was born Nov. 23; 1914; in Monessen; the daughter of Italian immigrants; Esaia and Allesandrina Matozzi D’Alfonso. She was a lifelong resident of Monessen; had graduated from Monessen High School in 1933; and retired from the former Friedlands and G.C. Murphy stores in Monessen. Valia was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church of Monessen and one of the original starting members of the Italian American Heritage Society. She was an avid card player and accomplished seamstress. In spite of her blindness in later years; she maintained her bright spirit and her memory never faltered as she enjoyed her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law; Karen and James Lewitsky; of Monessen; beloved grandson; James M. Stanger Jr.; and his wife; Carmen; of Deerfield Beach; Fla.; her namesake great-granddaughter; Alia Rayanna Stanger; her favorite nieces; Ilani D’Alfonso; of Dedham; Mass.; Rita Zange; of Augusta; Ga.; and Nancy Matz; of El Cerito; Calif.; special nephew; Miles Dale Kratochvil; of Charleston; Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband; Lewis Raymond Ray in 1961; brothers; Jeno and Samuel D’Alfonso; and sisters; Leona Kratochvil; Josephine Powlowsky; and Fanny D’Alfonso.
