Donald Mitchner; 71; of Coal Center; died Sunday; April 1; 2012; at UPMC Mercy Hospital; Pittsburgh. Born July 26; 1940; in California; he was the son of the late George D. and Geneva Sethman Mitchner. Mr. Mitchner was a resident of Coal Center for the past 23 years; having previously resided in Bentleyville. Mitch was a retired truck driver of 36 years with Fox Grocery (Green Thumb Division); and later Wetterau and Supervalu. He was also a former teamster representative for Local 872. Don belonged to the senior citizens group of Center on the Hill; where he enjoyed meeting with his many friends and participating in all the activities. In his early years he enjoyed hunting; fishing; camping and riding motorcycles. He and his wife were avid auction goers and he loved working his farm and telling stories to his family and friends. Don cared greatly for his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife; Loretta Lunt Mitchner; to whom he was a loving and devoted husband for over 50 years; five sisters and two brothers-in-law; Yvonne Jarvis; of Bentleyville; Constance and Bruce King; of Denbo; Dionne Ambler; of Brownsville; Jacqueline and Ron Krivda; of Coal Center; and Georgette Wilson; of Bentleyville; brother-in-law and best friend and sister-in-law; Leslie and Linda Lunt; of Rostraver Township; and many nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant brother; Robert Mitchner; and brother; Dwayne Mitchner. Charlene never was a woman to put herself first. She was devoted to her children; family and friends; and she was a woman of God. Charlene Prunty was born Aug. 2; 1946; in Pricedale (Rostraver Township); to the late Matthew and Georgia Lemon. Charlene was a 1964 graduate of Rostraver High School and immediately started work in the dietary department at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. With her love of helping people; she then worked for 28 years in mental health between the Western Center in Canonsburg and Mayview State Hospital in Bridgeville. Through all her years of employment; she made wonderful friends who were with her every step of the way. Charlene was an active; lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township); where she was always seen in the kitchen preparing meals for services or behind the wheel of the van making sure all members were able to make it to church services. Between all the love and support she gave to everyone around; she was an avid fisherwoman; cook; and comforter to her family and friends. After surviving all chances any doctor had given her; Charlene closed her eyes one last time on Thursday; Dec. 11; 2008; in UPMC McKeesport Hospital. Doris attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Fayette City; where she had served as a pianist; and she was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. Leon V. ‘Pappy’ Johnson Sr.; 83; of Monessen; died suddenly at his home on Sunday; Dec. 7; 2008. He leaves his devoted wife; Marie Wilkins-Johnson; sons; Leon V. (Jackie) Johnson Jr. and Kevin (Dee) Brown; daughter-in-law; Marguerite Johnson; stepbrothers; Scipio; Luther; Theodore; William; Charles and Fred White; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; relatives and friends. Pappy graduated from Monessen High School with the class of 1944; where he was the Mon Valley scoring leader. He was employed for many years by the City of Monessen; where he later served as street commissioner. He also worked for the Vitale Corporation in the construction industry. A lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township); Pappy served as a Deacon; chairman of the Trustee Board; Sunday school superintendent and choir member. He was a member of Monessen Lodge No. 79; Prince Hall F& AM for 55 years; and American Legion Anthony Madison Post No. 704; Mon Valley SAC; and the Mon Valley NAACP. Pappy was inducted into the Mon Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 1998; the Monessen Hall of Fame and the Monessen Quarterbacks Club. Pappy also was an avid bowler. He was preceded in death by his son; Ronald H. Johnson; in 1991; two brothers; George and Oliver Johnson; and one sister; Florence Womack.
