Clarence A. Weibl; 90; of N. Belle Vernon; passed away Tuesday; December 15; 2009 in his home. A son of the late Frederick and Julia Hofer Weibl; he was born in Rostraver Twp. on February 25; 1919. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and the American Legion; Post 659; both of Belle Vernon; and retired from the steam plant at the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Clarence loved gardening and was a purple heart recipient of the U.S. Army serving in the battle of Guadalcanal. Suriviors include his wife of 63 years; Paula Caban Weibl; one son and daughter-in-law; Daniel and Linda Weibl and one granddaughter; Danielle Weible; all of Belle Vernon. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by two sisters; Ida McElfresh and Louise and seven brothers; Frank; Edward; Fritz; Carl; Raymond; Phillip and John Weibl. Matushka Sophia Hubiak Soroka; formally of Miami; Florida; fell asleep in the Lord; peacefully; on Sunday; July 1; 2012. A daughter of the late Archpriest Afanasy and Susan Wanchisen Hubiak; she was born in Akron; OH on July 14; 1925. Sophia was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church of Miami; FL and was also involved in the Federated Russian Orthodox Clubs until her recent move to Pennsylvania. Matushka Sophia was a choir director for many years; and a dedicated servant to her Lord. She retired from AT&T (the former Bell Telephone Company) having worked in both Akron and Miami. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law; Very Rev. Daniel and Dunia Hubiak of Maryland; brother-in-law; Very Rev. Michael Kovach of Lancaster; sisters-in-law Anne Hubiak of Akron; OH; Augustine Soroka of Charleroi; Steveanna Lis of Hopewell; Helen and Bill Evansky of Forest Hills; Vera and Tony Trona of Canonsburg and Martha and Ron Zeli of Belle Vernon and many loving nieces and nephews. Archpriest Theodore Soroka; 89; of Miami; Fla.; fell asleep in the Lord on the morning of Wednesday; Feb. 8; 2012. A son of Theodore and Irene Pawlack Soroka; he was born on Sept. 22; 1922; in Belle Vernon. Father Theodore was a graduate of St. Tikhon’s Seminary; South Canaan. On July 21; 1957; he married the former Sophia Hubiak; daughter of Archpriest Afanasy and Susan Wanchisen Hubiak. He was ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence; Archbishop Dmitri [Magan] of Philadelphia; on Aug. 31; 1957; and to the priesthood the following day. He served St. John the Baptist Church; Blacklick; Pa.; Saint John Chrysostom Church; Grand Rapids; Mich.; and Holy Transfiguration Church; Steubenville; Ohio. In 1964; he was assigned pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church; Miami; Fla.; which he served until his retirement from active ministry in 1995. In retirement; he remained attached to Saints Peter and Paul Church. Survivors include his wife; Matushka Sophia; sisters; Augustine Soroka; of Belle Vernon; Stevanna Lis; of Aliquippa; Helen (Bill) Evansky; of Forest Hills; Vera (Tony) Trona; of Canonsburg; and Martha (Ron) Zeli; of Belle Vernon; loving nieces and nephews; and caretaker; friend; Karen Tkacz. Family and friends will be received from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church; Belle Vernon. The funeral service for a priest will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church with Bishop Melchisedek and Rev. Samuel Smolcic presiding.
