Mr.Bethem was a retired machinist from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He formerly operated a jewelry store and an appliance business in Belle Vernon. In 1943;he established the Bethem Machine Shop in Dunlevy which was moved to Belle Vernon in 1953;serving as owner and president of the firm which is now operated by two sons. He was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club of Belle Vernon and an honorary member of the Belle Vernon Fire Department. Previously he was associated with his father in the hardware business in Charleroi. Mr.Bowers belonged to the First United Methodist Church;Elks Lodge No.494 and Senior Citizens;all of Charleroi.
