George L.Dodd;80;of Chambersburg;formerly of Belle Vernon;died suddenly in the Underwood Hospital;Swedenboro;New Jersey;Tuesday;June 15;1954;at 2 a.m. Mr.Dodd;who was a former Belle Vernon business man;was visiting with relatives;Mr.and Mrs.A.C.Dodd in Swedenboro when he became suddenly ill. The deceased was a merchant in Belle Vernon for years and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church;Belle Vernon;to which he still belonged;and the Chamber of Commerce. While in Belle Vernon he also served on the Belle Vernon School Board and was a director of the Valley Deposit and Trust Co. He was a member of the Lodge of Perfection of Uniontown and Gumbert Lodge;Fayette City. He was a son of the late Dr.and Mrs.Samuel Dodd and is survived by one daughter;Virginia Dodd Cooper;of Chambersburg;with whom he made his home. Friends will be received at the Melenyzer-Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;from Thursday evening at 7 p.m.;until Friday at 2 p.m.;at which time services will be conducted by Rev.George Kress of the Gibsonia Presbyterian Church. DR.FRANCIS CHALMER DUVALL
Dr.Francis C.Duvall;M.D.;aged 80 years;of 692 McKee Way;Monessen;died Monday;October 5;1953;at 5 a.m.;after a brief illness. He was born in Centerville;Pa.on May 5;1873 a son of the late John and Elizabeth Lash Duvall. Dr.Duvall graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1909;and after his internship at West Penn Hospital;began his practice in Charleroi. In 1911;he moved his practice to Monessen;and five years ago;went into semi-retirement. He was a member of the Monessen School Board for eighteen years;and worked for the state Board of Health. He was also City Health officer in Monessen;and was a member of the First Methodist Church of that place. He was a life member of the Charleroi F.and A.M.;and belonged to the McKean Commandery;Knights Templar. He is survived by his wife;Mrs.Lorena Duvall;two sons;George of Elizabeth;New Jersey;and Ensign Francis C.Duvall;stationed abroad Coast Guard Cutter Chincoteague;which is now at sea. The family will receive friends at the Rhome Funeral Home;Mckee avenue;from 1 to 5 and from 7 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Thursday;Oct.8;at 2 p.m.;with Rev.Allan J.Howes;of the First Methodist Church officiating.
