Thomas Presley Dent;99;of 1340 Fayette Ave.;Belle Vernon (Fairhope);died at his home Monday;Oct.7;1968 at 440 a.m. He would have been 100 years old in January. Had Mr.Dent lived he and his wife;Eva; would have celebrtated their 75th wedding anniversary on Dec.26 of this year. He had been an engineer at the Naomi mine of Hilman Coal Co.;having been employed by Hillman until he retired a the age of 77. Mr.Dent was a member of Marion Presbyterian Presbyterain Church in Fairhope and Modern Woodmen of America. Born in Grandville;W.Va.;Jan.23;1869;he was a son of the late Dr.George W.and Caroline Scott Dent. Surviving are his widow;Eva Beeler Dent;two sons;Charles L.of Detroit;Mich.;and Dr.Aland C.of Fayette City;two daughters;Mrs.Virginia Ferguson of Belle Vernon and Mrs. Harold R.(Hester) Humphries of Maple View;nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren;and great-great-granddaughter. A former Belle Vernon resident;Mary Irene Duwall;51;was killed instantly when the car she wsa driving collided with a truck at a crossroads on the Tamiami Trail highway in Florida. Miss Duwall;who was alone in the car;was traveling to Miami;Fla.;so spend the Christmas holidays with friends. She was killed only 17 miles from her destination. Miss Duwall lived at 316 Devon Drive;Birmingham;Ala.;and was a member of the staff of the University of Alabama;where she was associate profesor of psychology. She was graduated from Belle Vernon High School in 1934;Mt.Sinai School of Nursing at New York City and Peabody College at Nashville;Tenn. At the latter she received a Ph.D.in psychology. Miss Duwall was born in Rostraver Twp.;on Sept.21;1916.
