Robert Campbell;Jr.;aged 7 years;only child of Mr.and Mrs.Robert Campbell of 668 Knox avenue;was fatally injured shortly after noon Tuesday;April 3;1923;when struck by an automobile owned and driven by Richard Van Marter. The accicent happened in front of the McKinley school building on Reed avenue;the youth having just left his school room at the noon hour and with a number of other children were crossing the street on their way home. The Paige touring car which Mr.VanMarter was driving with several women passengers in the rear seat was coming down the avenue when the boy darted directly in the path of the car. The little victim was struck on the head by the radiator of the car and with a cry of Mamma he fell to the street and the wheels of the machine passed over his body. The driver of the machine quickly brought his car to a stop and rushed to the side of the little boy who was bleeding from the mouth;nose and ears. When picked up he was unconscious and while his playmates stood about awe stricken and fearful of the fate that had befallen the youth;Mr.VanMarter placed the injured boy in the machine and started for the Memorial hospital at Monongahela City. Just as the youth was being removed from the car to be taken into the hospital he passed away. His skull had been fractured and he was internally injured. The victim of the accidnt was a great favorite in the neighborhood and his death was a great shock to friends of the family who just recently rejoiced when the little lad recovered after a long seige of illness. The body will be brought to the family home at 668 Knox avenue this afternoon. Funeral services will be from the family home;Thursday;April 5;1923;at 2 o’clock with interment in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
