The body of Corporal Samuel Caputo;Marine Corps;aged 27 years;Belle Vernon’s first casualty in the Second World War;has been removed to the Toner Funeral Home at Belle Vernon where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.Friday;March 5;1948;in charge of Rev.Eugene Harkins. His body arrived in Charleroi on Wednesday;March 3;1948;at 9:56 a.m. He was the son of James Caputo;of 202 Vernon Street;Belle Vernon. He was killed in action on Guadalcanal on October 22;1942. He enlisted in the service in 1940. Corporal Caputo was graduated from Belle Vernon High School and worked at the Pricedale mine of the Pittsburgh Coal Company when he enlisted. He leaves his father;James;two sisters and three brothers. Burial will be made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery.
