Staff Sergeant Nick Pehote;a 23-year-old radio operator on a glider-towing C-47 plane was killed in action;in a flight over Eindhoven;Holland;last year;the War Department has notified his mother;Mrs.Rose Pehote of Pricedale. Previously;Sergeant Pehote had been reported missing in action as of September 17;1944. The letter from the War Derpartment follows: Since your son;Staff Sergeant Nick Pehote;was reported missing in action 17 September 1944;the War Department has entertained the hope that he survived and that information would be revealed dispelling the uncertainty surrounding his absence. However;as in many cases the conditions of warfare deny us such information. The record concernng your son shows that he was a crew member of a C-4 (Skytrain) airplane that was hit by enemy anti-aircraft force and seen to crash in the vicinity of Eindhoven;Holland while on a combat mission. In recognition of his outstanding courage;Sergeant Pehote had been awarded the Air Medal. He was among the first to go in as a C-47 radio operator after D-Day. His remains will arrive in Charleroi Friday morning Feb.4;1949;at 10:04 a.m.and will be taken to the Toner Funeral Home in Belle Vernon. Sergeant Pehote was graduated from Rostraver High School and prior to entering the service was employed in Detroit;Mich. Survivors are his mother;Mrs.Rose Pehote of Pricedale;three brothers;Mike Pehote of 1120 Dennis avenue;Monessen; Sgt.John Pehote;overseas and Third Class Gunner’s Mate Harry Pehote in the Pacific.
