Roy F. Evans; 85; of North Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Dec. 13; 2005; in the Victoria House; Monessen. A son of the late Albert and Edna Costella Evans; he was born in Belle Vernon on Feb. 25; 1920. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; Mr. Evans was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Belle Vernon Moose. Roy was an avid bowler and a police officer for Belle Vernon Borough in the early 1940’s. He retired from the Uniontown Foodland; where he was the meat department manager. Mr. Evans was inducted into the Belle Vernon Area Football Hall of Fame in 2003 and was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II. Miley Miles Kupirovich; 79; of Belle Vernon; died Wednesday; Dec. 7; 2005. He was known to friends as Mitch and to his grandchildren as Pap-Pap. The son of the late Nicholas and Mary Kupirovich; Miley was born Feb. 4; 1926; in Fayette County; where he lived his entire life. He retired in 1994 from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.; Allenport Plant; as an electrician; and he also was a professional jeweler. Miley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and honorably discharged in 1945 as a Private First Class. He was a deeply patriotic Democrat. Miley belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Fayette City and Belle Vernon chapters of the American Legion; and the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club. Miley took a great interest in American history; especially the Civil War; and made frequent trips to significant historical sites in the United States. He also was a member of The Smithsonian Institute. Of Serbian and Russian heritage; he traveled to Eastern Europe to research his lineage and spoke fluent Serbian. He cared deeply for animals and was a member of The Humane Society. Miley loved gardening and greeted all visitors to his home in Lynnwood with meals and fresh salads from his garden. John A. Jocko Piper; 73; of Monessen; died Friday; Dec. 2; 2005; at his residence. He was born Oct. 11; 1932; in Monessen; a son of the late Russel E. Piper and Mary Katherine Brodigan Piper. He graduated from Monessen High School with the class of 1950 and then served his country faithfully with the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radioman. Following an honorable discharge; Mr. Piper went to work at Corning Glass and went on to work as a railroad engineer for Southwestern Railroad and Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.
