Katherine Lucille Bello Medve, 96, of Cleveland, OH, and formerly of western PA, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at The Renaissance Continuing Care Retirement Community, Olmsted Twp.., OH.
Born May 19, 1929, Katherine was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Mary Costello Bello. She lived nearly her entire life in western PA before spending her final years in OH, close to family.
A graduate of Indiana Normal School — now Indiana University of Pennsylvania — Katherine devoted her working life to serving others. Over the course of her career, she was a teacher, a dietitian, and a social worker, retiring from the Commonwealth of PA, where she spent her final years of work helping families through some of their hardest moments.
A member of the Ligonier Presbyterian Church and a polio survivor, Katherine carried a quiet resilience, a focused determination, and classiness into every chapter of her life. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a friend — and she lived each of those roles with care and devotion.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas A. and Mary C. Bello; her siblings, Thomas Bello, John Bello, Virginia Bello, and Franklin Bello; and her three husbands, Sheldon Hess, Errico Lorenzi, and Bill Medve.
She is survived by her son, David S. Hess, and his wife, Darlene, of OH, who lovingly cared for her in the closing chapter of her life; and by her grandchildren, Maggie (Hess) Scott, her husband Zack Scott, and William Hess.
A lifelong resident of western PA, Katherine moved to The Renaissance Continuing Care Retirement Community, where she received compassionate care until her passing. In later
years, Katherine's greatest joys were the time she spent with her grandchildren, afternoons spent shopping, watching golf on television, and the company of dear friends.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon, PA on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 1 P.M, with Rev. Chuck Jack officiating. She will be laid to rest with other members of her family in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
