Obituary

Cheryl Anne Fleming, 60, of Monessen, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, in the emergency room of Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. Cheryl was born on April 25, 1965, in Pittsburgh, to Carl and Carol Serwinski Hughes, who survive and reside in Rostraver Township. Christian by faith, she was a priesthood minister of the Community of Christ Church of Fayette City. As her children grew up, Cheryl was extremely involved in all of their activities. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening, baking and was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cheryl was employed as an Early Learning Consultant for Allegheny Intermediate Unit. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Derrick Monk Sr.; daughter, Elizabeth Fleming; son, Cory Fleming; stepchildren, Gabrielle, Brione and Derrick Monk Jr.; sister, Cathy and husband Pat Campbell; niece, Alyssa and husband Blake Matula; nephew, Anthony and wife Lauren Zenobi; and great-nephew, Ryker Matula. Also surviving is her beloved dog, Tucker. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Kathy Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Monessen Public Library.
