Willie James Newberry; 86; of Belle Vernon; went home to be with the Lord on Monday; Nov. 27; 2006; in Mon Valley Hospital. Born to the late David J. Matthews and Estella Worsham Matthews; she has resided in the Mon Valley most of her life. Mrs. Newberry was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Belle Vernon; where she served on the Missionary board. She cooked for the homeless many years and was co-owner of a restaurant in Monessen called Old New York . Mrs. Newberry also belonged to the YWBA Association for many years. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; John H. Newberry; one son; Hiawatha Frezzell; and three sisters and two brothers. William James leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Asenath A. Love; of Mt. Clemens; Mich.; and Jannie M. Scott; of Detroit; Mich.; one sister; Jannie M. Moore; of Columbus; Ohio; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church; Henry Street; Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be held Saturday; Dec. 2; at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Clifford Carter; pastor; officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
