Obituary

Willie James Hawkins,36,of 1221 Morgan Ave.,Monessen,died in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital,Tuesday,Feb. 25,1964 at 4:10 p.m. of injuries suffered in a car accident,Saturday,Feb. 15 at Rankins Crossroads in Rostraver Twp. A passenger in the car driven by Mr Hawkins was killed almost instantly. She was Mrs. Vivian Lippencott of Monessen. Westmoreland County Coroner Stephen D. Yoney said Mr. Hawkins died of internal injuries and shock. Mr. Hawkins was employed at the Clairton plant of United States Steel Co. and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Monessen.  He was also a trustee of the church. He was born in Cecil, Ala.,May 15,1927,and came to Monessen in 1948.  Surviving are his widow, Eddie Mae; two sons, Willie Hawkins,Jr. of Montgomery,Ala. and Terry Lee at home;his parents, Mr.and Mrs.Rafe Hawkins of Montgomery,Ala; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Mitchell of Monessen. Friends will be received at the Beverly C. Draper Funeral Home,Monessen,after 7 p.m. Feb. 26. Funeral service Saturday,Feb 29,at 1 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church,Monessen. The Rev. E. Archie,pastor,will officiate.  Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Beverly C. Draper,funeral director.
