William W.Smith;59;of 235 Knox Ave.;Monessen;died Sunday;May 31;1970;at 9:45 a.m.in Aspinwall Veterans Administration Hospital. He had been in failing health the past year. Born in Monessen;Mr.Smith was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a member of St.Leonard R.C.Church;Thomas McKee Post 28;American Legion and Allison-Lescanac Post 1190 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars;all of Monessen. A veteran of World War II;having served in the U.S.Army;he had worked at the Monessen Page and Cable Co.for 21 years. He was later employed by the former McKelvie Pontiac Garage in Monessen. Surviving are two brothers and a sister;Robert of Monessen;Mrs.Claire Pritchard Ulmer at home and Harry at home;four nephews;William D.Pritchard of Warren;Ohio;Robert Smith of Buffalo;N.Y.;Alfred Smith of Dunlevy;Ted Smith of Pleasant Hills;three nieces;Mrs.Jacqueline Paul Kennedy of Belle Vernon;Mrs.Eleanor Adams of Trafford;and Mrs.Mary Jane Penich of Chicago;Ill. Preceding him in death were two sisters;Rose Smith McDermott and Eleanor Paul. Friends will be received after 7 p.m.on June 1 at Rhome Funeral Home;Monessen. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday;June 3;at 11 a.m.in St.Leonard R.C.Church;Monessen. The Rev.Regis Hickey;pastor;will officiate. Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Rhome funeral directors are in charge of arrangements.
