William P.McGavitt Sr.;71;of 419 Main St.;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;June 7;1994;at 10:50 p.m.in Mercy Hospital;Pittsburgh. Born Dec.6;1922;in Monongahela;he was the son of the late Harry and Pauline Assel McGavitt. Mr.McGavitt resided in Belle Vernon for 50 years and attended the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church. In 1981;because of ill health;he retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;where he was employed as a millwright. He and his wife;Anna Fike McGavitt;would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in October 1994. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by two brothers;Harry and Thomas McGavitt. Surviving;in addition to his wife;are two sons;and one daughter-in-law;William P.McGavitt Jr.;at home;and James M.and Cathy McGavitt of Belle Vernon;three daughters;Mrs.Richard (Joyce) Parks of Belle Vernon;Mrs.William (Linda) Dudeck of Charleroi R.D.and Mrs.Stephen (Donna) Tiernan of Fayette City R.D.;10 grandchildren;three great-grandchildren;and two sisters;Mary Peters of Weirton;W.Va.;and Dorothy Brown of Wellsburg;W.Va. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.;700 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m.with the Rev.Eugene Spear;pastor of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church;Belle Vernon;officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will conduct services in the funeral home Thursday at 7 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
