Obituary

William P.McGavitt Sr.,71,of 419 Main St.,Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,June 7,1994,at 10:50 p.m.in Mercy Hospital,Pittsburgh. Born Dec.6,1922,in Monongahela,he was the son of the late Harry and Pauline Assel McGavitt. Mr.McGavitt resided in Belle Vernon for 50 years and attended the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church. In 1981,because of ill health,he retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.,where he was employed as a millwright. He and his wife,Anna Fike McGavitt,would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in October 1994. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by two brothers,Harry and Thomas McGavitt. Surviving,in addition to his wife,are two sons,and one daughter-in-law,William P.McGavitt Jr.,at home,and James M.and Cathy McGavitt of Belle Vernon,three daughters,Mrs.Richard (Joyce) Parks of Belle Vernon,Mrs.William (Linda) Dudeck of Charleroi R.D.and Mrs.Stephen (Donna) Tiernan of Fayette City R.D.,10 grandchildren,three great-grandchildren,and two sisters,Mary Peters of Weirton,W.Va.,and Dorothy Brown of Wellsburg,W.Va. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m.with the Rev.Eugene Spear,pastor of the Char-Belle Free Methodist Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will conduct services in the funeral home Thursday at 7 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.
