Obituary

William P. Evans, 85, of Fallowfield Township, died Friday, April 11, 2008, in Adult Assisted Living, Dunlevy. He was born August 16, 1922, in Belle Vernon, a son of the late Joseph and Fannie Peters Evans. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Post No. 167, Odd Fellows Lodge, Elks Lodge No. 494 and Masonic Lodge No. 615, all of Charleroi, and the Syria Shrine. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations where he received the Purple Heart. He was retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and a former supervisor in Fallowfield Township. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon (James) Valko, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Charlene Evans, of Seminole, Fla., one sister, June Lambert, of Charleroi, two grandchildren, Patrick and Eric Valko, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Abigail Valko. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Muckle Evans, two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Charles Evans, and two sisters, Frances Yakich and Opal Wargo. Friends will be received in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME, 819 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Thursday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Northey officiating. Interment, with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 22, in Charleroi, will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A Masonic Lodge service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
