Obituary

William Jacobs,38,a former resident of Monessen,but now residing at Dunlevy.was fatally injured at 3:15 Thursday morning,December 5,1935 while walking along Route 88,near the White Barn,between Dunlevy and Speers. Daniel Atkinson,30,of Roscoe,a dairy employee,driving his automobile toward Charleroi,struck the man who apparently had wandered into the center of the road. After the accident Mr. Atkinson picked the unconscious man up and placed him in his automobile.  When he arrived at the Charleroi-Monessen hospital,however,the victim was pronounced dead.  He had suffered a broken neck and a fractured skull. Mr. Jacobs had been in Charleroi Wednesday night and evidently missed the last car and was walking home when the accident happened.  Mr. Atkinson stated he did not see the man until he felt the impact.  Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife and four children,as well as his mother, who resides in Monessen. He was employed as a highway worker.  Informed of the tragedy the wife of Mr. Jacobs suffered a nervous collapse.The body has been removed to the home in Dunlevy where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock,with interment to follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Mr. Jacobs saw service with the A.E.F. in France and will be given a full military burial.
