William L. ‘Bill’ Ciavarra; 83; of Fayette City; died Sunday; April 12; 2009; in Mon Valley Care Center. He was born Aug. 9; 1925; in Fayette City; a son of the late Joseph Ciavarra and the late Edna (Natola) Ciavarra. Bill was retired from the Ciavarra Tailoring and Cleaning Shop in Fayette City. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Ciavarra was a member of the Fayette City United Presbyterian Church; a life member of Brightwell-Daughtery Post No. 484 American Legion in Fayette City and the Fayette City Volunteer Fire Co. He also was a member of Gummert Lodge No. 252 F&AM in Fayette City and the Fayette County Fireman’s Association. Mr. Ciavarra was a former member of the Fayette City Municipal Authority and the Fayette City Golden Trojans Drum & Bugle Corps. Surviving is his best friend in life and ex-wife; Bessie Jean Ciavarra; of Fayette City; one aunt; Martha Hersbold; and her two sons; Bradley and Maynord Hersbold. He was preceded in death by an infant brother; William Ciavarra; and his sister; Wilmina Michaloski. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME; Fayette City (724-326-5621). Funeral services will be held Thursday; April 16; at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Shepard officiating; followed by interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
