Obituary

William J. Bill Govier, 86, of Monessen passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Meadowcrest Nursing Center, Bethel Park. A son of the late John Wesley and Marion I. Anderson Govier, he was born in North Belle Vernon on May 16, 1925. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon and the Mon Valley Lodge 252, F&AM. A resident of Monessen since 1951, he retired in 1981 from the Allenport Plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. He was also employed as a custodian for 25 years for the First Presbyterian Church until his retirement in 2008. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Thelma Shearer Govier, one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Candice Govier, of Kansas City, Mo., one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Davies, of Bethel Park, four grandchildren, William Richard Davies and wife, Karin, Michael Davies and wife, Heather, Jeff Davies and wife, Christine, and Kimberly Jackson, and six great-grandchildren, Steel Jackson, Skyler Jackson, Kylie Jackson, Justin Davies, Michael Davies and Ivy Stanford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Wesley Govier. A funeral service will be held in the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon on Monday, June 20, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Suzanne Currie officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Officers and members of the First Presbyterian Church will gather in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday to hold services. If friends wish, memorial donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
