Obituary

William J. Bartman, 82, of Monessen, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Bethel Township on Oct. 7, 1925, a son of the late Thomas and Agnes Oprosky Bartman. He was a resident of Monessen since 1949, having grown up in the Monongahela area. Mr. Bartman was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a retired electrician, having worked for California University of Pennsylvania as foremen of HVAC. Mr. Bartman was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army with the 102nd Division, 405th Infantry Regiment in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He participated in combat operations in Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat and Expert Infantryman's badges, and two Bronze Stars. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angeline DeMarco Bartman, his son, William J. Bartman Jr., of Fairfax County, Va., a brother, Thomas Bartman, of Bentleyville, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Julius and August Bartman, and three sisters, Marie Murray, Betty Polaski and Clara Jozefczyk. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, beginning with an 11 a.m. Blessing in the funeral home, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church, Monessen.
