Obituary

William Howard (Dotty) Sowden Sr.,82,of 611 Grant St.,Belle Vernon,died Monday,Jan.27,1975,at 11:40 a.m.in Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. He was born in Snowden Twp.on June 25,1892,and had lived in Belle Vernon the past 50 years. Mr. Sowden was a coal miner and retired in 1954. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Surviving are his widow, Hester Ann Steer Sowden, one son, W. Howard Sowden Jr. of Hollywood, Fla., one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Ruth) Altier of Belle Vernon, one brother, Robert Sowden of Roscoe, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Cotton of North Charleroi and Mrs. Jennie Beeler of Belle Vernon, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m.at the funeral home with the Rev.Charles K.Sowden of First United Methodist Church of Fredericktown officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson is funeral director in charge.
