A father was killed and his son injured when a truck in which they were riding was struck by a south-bound freight train of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Dunlevy Crossing Wednesday afternoon, February 20,1946. The father, William Heino,68,of 1011 Lincoln avenue, Charleroi,was almost instantly killed, and his son,Leonard,24,suffered multiple injuries and is in "fair" condition in the Charleroi-Monessen hospital. The fatal accident occurred at 3:50 p.m. Burgess Steve Molinary of Dunlevy,said the son was operating the truck,which was dragged approximately 50 feet by the freight train. The truck was virtually demolished. The impact of the crash tossed the younger Heino from the truck,but the father had to be extricated from the wreckage. The father,who suffered a broken neck and other injuries,was not mangled. He died in a Charleroi borough ambulance enroute to Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Survivors include T. Leonard Heino,the injured son,and three daughters, Mrs. Pentti Hellonen of Detroit,Mrs. Chris Biagini of Craven Hill and Lila at home. The deceased was born in Finland. He was a member of the Finnish Lutheran Church of Monessen. Friends will be received at the late home. Services will be held there Sunday,February 24,1946 at 2 p.m.,in charge of Rev. Meade A. Rugh,pastor of Christ Lutheran Church of Charleroi. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Chas.L. and Edwin Melenyzer are the funeral directors.
