William Garber Sr., 92, of North Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 30, 2015, in the Cherry Tree Nursing Home in Uniontown. A son of the late Peter and Mary Wagner Garber, he was born in Monessen on July 29, 1922. William resided in Belle Vernon most of his adult life and was a member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1985. He was a life member and past president of the Belle Vernon Lions Club and member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department and Tri-County Lodge F and AM 252, Donora. William served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II. Survivors include two sons, John W. Garber of North Belle Vernon and William Garber Jr. and fiancee, Jane Engel, of Carroll Township; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol (Bob) Berish of Belle Vernon with whom he made his home for the past eight years and Sheryl (Steve) Chachula of Bridgeville; one brother, Jack "Pee Wee" Garber of Ohio; three sisters, Mildred Molocznick and Jean McFarland from the state of California and Marian Angeline of Belle Vernon; and a former daughter-in-law, Lisa Garber; nine grandchildren, Brett (Mary Lou) Berish, Tina (Sam) Colella, Denise Dilts, Mark (Robyn) Chachula, Nicole (John) Baselj, Shelley Tebo, Steve (Lisa) Chachula, Eric Garber and Joshua William Garber; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Cadman Garber on Feb. 17, 2006; four sisters, Jackie McFarland and Betty, Teresa and Margaret Garber, all in infancy; and one brother, Peter Garber. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com, 724-929-5300. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, in the funeral home with his son-in-law, Steve Chachula officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The members of North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will meet in the funeral home to hold services at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
