Obituary

William B. Holzapfel, 84, of Charleroi, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Mount Vernon of Elizabeth. He was born March 31, 1925, in South Strabane Township, the son of the late Gerald Holzapfel and Frances Rogers Holzapfel. Bill was a retired electrician from the Irvin Works of USS Steel. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Izard in the Philippines during the Pacific Theater. Bill and his late wife, Mary, enjoyed many years of motorcycle riding, with trips to Daytona Beach, Fla. and Ocean City, Md. He is survived by two sons, William B. Holzafel Jr., of N. Charleroi, and Myron D. Sprawls, of Charleroi, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wayne Valdiserri, of Sun City West, Ariz., a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Joseph Kay, of Florida, two granddaughters, Daisy Holzapfel, of Charleroi, Billy Lee Moss, of Rockville, Idaho, and by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joyce Cook Holzapfel, and by a daughter, Lori Sprowls-Staley. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m.Sunday in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC.AND CREMATION SERVICES,441 Reed Ave.,Monessen,(724-684-8750). Services will be held at 9:30 a.m.Monday,June 22,2009,in the funeral home,with Rev.Conrad Auel officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
